Thanks for letting me Know, Suzanne 🙂 And you’re welcome. It’s been a while since my actual teaching days, so hopefully it all goes smoothly.
I’ve been thinking that it might be a good idea to have a workshop on creating a basic home ‘ herbal medicine cabinet’ stock using plants. as well. Stuff for bites, stomach issues, headaches, coughs & flus or bronchitis, wound healing etc. Basic first aid which can prevent doctors visits, long hours waiting in the emergency room & so on.
This would include salve making, tincture making, basic cough syrup making, infusing honey / oils / vinegars etc. But in order to do that, people will first need to know which plants to look for when harvesting.
Let me know if you’d be interested in that. Likewise for anyone else. Fall would probably be the best time to do this.
Anyone who would like to attend a workshop like this, please call me at home (no cell service in my area): 250-285-2515

I think you come from a more formal educational background, where I come from a more ancestral experiential background, using plants for a lot of traditional medicines as well as foods.
I’m putting together some basic info for people to take home, hoping they will continue to do more research as they have time. Nature most definitely provides absolutely everything we need, despite the fact that we have been indoctrinated to fear Her & Her creations.

MemberJune 29, 2022 at 1:48 am in reply to: Anybody interested in workshops related to wild edibles?I’ve added them to my list, thanks very much Ann 🙂 We’ve now got 15 people. I will cut it off at 20, if we get there, to keep things manageable.
For all who are interested in this workshop, please note that you will need the following:
• camera (I would suggest a dedicated point & shoot, rather than the camera on your cell phone, to minimize distractions)
• notebook
• pen
• lunch / drinks / snacks (personal only)
I will be supplying a ‘recommended foraging equipment’ list, a ‘recommended reading’ list, a ‘recommended websites’ list, a ‘recommended YouTube channels’ list, along with other printables for specific plants included in the workshop.
I appreciate everyone’s patience, thank you. I am working on putting this together between my work schedule, gardening etc, so doing my best to get this happening ASAP ❤

We will start with very simple, easily accessible & easily identifiable plants, then go from there. This will definitely be an ongoing workshop due to the changes of the seasons, differences in experience levels with everyone, as well as teaching people how to use their plants. Some are edible, some medicinal, and often they are both 🙂

MemberJune 21, 2022 at 4:50 pm in reply to: Anybody interested in workshops related to wild edibles?I have been putting information together over the past several days, deciding what would be easiest for people to begin with, especially things which can be found in many people’s yards & gardens. I think that’s probably the best place to start from because there is so much information that people could become overwhelmed, and then give up. I’d like to keep it fun, as well as informative, and absolutely safe.
I will keep you all updated. Enjoy your evening 🙂

Enjoy the sun today!

Nettles are so versatile, and so good for us, raw or cooked, either way. Especially healthy for women! although very good for anyone. Another one: raspberry leaves, although I have not yet tried cooking with them. But they are powerful yet gentle medicine for women.
Speaking of rice, Joyce mentioned wild rice the other day – technically a grass as she said – which I am really excited to find & try out. I’m going to try to find some organic at Healthy Way & scatter some in the very damp areas near me & see what happens. It should grow like crazy – I hope – especially with the torrential rains. An interesting experiment I’m looking forward to! 🙂

That’s awesome, especially with so many wild edibles around us all 🙂 They are so incredibly healthy, much moreso than the food from the grocery store. This is truly a case of food being medicine, very literally.
We have lost these skills, sadly, over many years of not handing this knowledge down from generation to generation, opting for the ‘convenience’ of grocery stores. For me, it’s more convenient to walk out into the bush, browse my garden & find everything I need for a meal.
